Mission

The mission of Second Bloom of Chatham is to identify and raise awareness of the needs of those in Chatham County affected by any form of intimate partner and/or sexual violence and to work in collaboration with the community to meet those needs.

Second Bloom of Chatham is proud to be a recognized member of the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV), the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault (NCCASA), and the North Carolina Coalition Against Human Trafficking (NCCAHT).

History

Second Bloom of Chatham, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit organization in August 2017. Second Bloom’s name came from the long-respected and thriving thrift store in Chatham County which benefited the community mission to support survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence. Our motivation was for that mission to bloom again.

After officially launching in November 2018, we opened our Thrift Shop. We then launched our first service, the 24/7/365 Helpline, in July 2019.

Over the next couple of years, we opened our administrative office, moved and expanded our Thrift Shop, grew and diversified our funding streams, and hired additional staff, all while sustaining our core services during the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout our early years, we have been sustained by amazing, dedicated, hardworking volunteers on our board, in our thrift shop, and on our helpline.

We have been able to rapidly grow our services since our inception in 2017 and have received funding from local organizations (including Women of Fearrington, Galloway Ridge, and United Way of Chatham), state and federal funders (including the Council for Women and Youth Involvement and Governor’s Crime Commission), as well as become the designated intimate partner and sexual violence services organization for Chatham County as appointed by the Council for Women and Youth Involvement (CFWYI) of North Carolina.

Today, we have 6 full-time and 3 part-time employees, including 2 Spanish-speaking Bilingual Advocates, and hope to continue growing our services and presence across Chatham County in the coming years.
